Shirley Wright
from Life Unlimited was the speaker for our November meeting.
She came with a box of items which disabled could find helpful
in their daily living; grip cloth, cutters, pick up sticks, pull-on-sox
sticks, utensils, chopping boards and various other gadgets.
As a committee
member and on the board of trustee for Life Unlimited, Shirley
spoke from a wide knowledge of 15 years of involvement with disabled.
Not that she had much chance to speak..... input and discussions
from those attending was lively as each one had a hint or example
to share of what they had found helpful.
The grip cloth
was the most popular discovery for some, while others have already
found multiple uses for it; to hold a potato or apple to peel
or cut it, put under a plate or cutting board to prevent slipping,
to hold a light bulb when removing it (not a hot bulb), to get
a better grip on screw tops, to line a tray or drawer to stop
dishes, objects from sliding. Grip cloth is available at "Payless
Plastics", "Warehouse" and maybe other hardware
shops.
In spite of a
drizzly afternoon, 14 people attended the meeting, two for the
first time, coming from Thames, Matamata and Hamilton.
We were saddened
by the passing of a member Ngaire Flay, and of Joyce Norton,
wife of Jim Norton who is a staunch supporter and faithful attendee
of our group.
