Our mid-winter meeting was well attend by 22 people coming from Matamata, Morrinsville, Te Kauwhata, Kawhia as well as Hamilton and Cambridge. A cheerful and lively interactive presentation by Dr David Prestage was enjoyed by all. Dr Prestage had prepared an informative talk about the initial damage done by polio and what is happening to us polio survivors now. His talk was skillfully illustrated with drawings of muscles, nerves, and sprouted muscle fibres. Lots and questions and good humour.
Dr Prestage has 5 polios under
his care and he works one day a week at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital
in Rotorua. We were all encouraged to find such a doctor who
has a caring interest in polio patients and open to receive further
information about helping us in the future.
A light afternoon tea was served and many stayed to talk and enjoy each others company well into the afternoon. Contact numbers:
